ITEA Prizes

The ITEA Annual Conference features two paper prizes:

  • Best Paper by a Junior Researcher Prize
  • Best Overall Paper Prize

Eligibility requirements for these prizes and the monetary amounts awarded have been determined on a yearly basis by the Conference Scientific Committee.

At the 2019 conference in Paris, the prize for the best paper by a young researcher was awarded to Naoshi Doi, Sapporo Gakuin University. The prize for the best overall paper was awarded to Federico Boffa, Free University of Bolzano and Collegio Carlo Alberto, Alessandro Fedele,  Free University of Bolzano, and Alberto Iozzi, Università di Roma Tor Vergata.

At the 2018 conference in Hong Kong, the prize for the best paper by a young researcher was awarded to Changmin Jiang, University of Manitoba. The prize for the best overall paper was awarded to Roman Zakharenko, HSE University Moscow.

At the 2017 conference in Barcelona, the prize for the best paper by a young researcher was awarded to Eleni Bardaka, North Carolina State University, Michael Delgado, Purdue University, and Raymond Florax, Purdue University. The prize for the best overall paper was awarded to Martin Adler, VU Univeristy Amsterdam, Federica Liberini, ETH Zurich, Antonio Russo, KOF, ETH Zurich, and Jos Van Ommeren, VU University Amsterdam.

At the 2016 conference in Santiago, Chile, the prize for the best paper by a young researcher was awarded to Yoon Sang Moon, the University at Buffalo. The prize for the best overall paper was awarded to Tiziana D’Alfonso, Sapienza University of Rome, and Eren Inci, Sabanci University.

At the 2015 conference in Oslo, the prize for the best paper by a young researcher was awarded to Wei Liu and Nikolas Geroliminis, École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. The prize for the best overall paper was awarded to Mogens Fosgerau, Technical University of Denmark.

At the 2014 conference in Toulouse, the prize for the best paper by a young researcher was awarded to Anders Munk-Nielsen, University of Copenhagen. The prize for the best overall paper was awarded to Achim Czerny, WHU-Otto Beisheim School of Management and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and Anming Zhang, University of British Columbia.

At the 2013 conference in Chicago, the prize for the best paper by a young researcher was awarded to Alejandro Molnar, Stanford and Vanderbilt University. The prize for the best overall paper was awarded to Jonathan D. Hall, Northwestern University and the University of Toronto.

At the 2012 conference in Berlin, the prize for the best paper by a young researcher was awarded to Antonio Russo, the Toulouse School of Economics. The prize for the best overall paper was awarded to Daniel Coublucq, Marc Ivaldi and Gerard McCullough, the Toulouse School of Economics.

ITEA Annual Conference and School

The aim of the annual ITEA Conference is to promote scientific excellence in the field of transport economics and to provide a forum for scientific exchange. Research presented at the Conference covers both theory and empirical work, it includes all transport modes, and it allows a wide range of research methodologies. Specific topics of interest include, but are not limited to, transport pricing and investment, competition policy, transport decisions under uncertainty, agglomeration effects, valuation of intangibles, privatization, the economics of new transport technologies, the political economy of transport decisions, etc.

The aim of the annual ITEA School is to provide young researchers a high quality introduction to academic research on transport economics, including many recent advances in the field. The School’s program consists of a series of lectures and tutorials; all faculty members are among the most prominent researchers in transport economics.

Online access to Economics of Transportation: Journal of ITEA (ECOTRA)

Members of the International Transportation Economics Association (ITEA) have free online access to Economics of Transportation: Journal of the ITEA (ECOTRA). The journal is published by Elsevier.
